The genesis of
the Davis Guitar Works Octave 12-String
guitar was my desire to emulate the
sound of a mandolin, but expand the
sonic spectrum beyond the limits of an
eight-string instrument.
This example,
like most Davis Guitar Works guitars,
features unique, high-quality exotic
woods, in this case a combination of spalted and figured clear mango I
hand-selected on the island of Maui,
Hawaii. To celebrate the spirit of
“aloha”, the lacquered mango fingerboard
is graced by a beach-side palm tree of
paua shell, and black and gold pearl,
and is tortoiseshell bound. The
electronics are a red Lace Sensor set in
a paua shell inlaid surround, controlled
by a single volume and tone pot. To hear
an Octave 12 in action, go to
The Big Ugly Guys website.
