Featured this
month is the prototype for a guitar
called “Big Dog”, to honor my
recently-departed retired racer, Butler.
As with the Davis Guitar Works WB
guitar, the “Big Dog” will be a platform
that will be highly adaptable to fit
many different pickup configurations,
scale lengths, and aesthetic and
acoustic enhancements; such as f-holes,
chambering and the like. This example
features spalted quilted maple on the
body’s top, bound by curly maple and
black / white / black purfling, and
headstock over avodire, a blond mahogany
from Africa.
Its electronics are pair of
Seymour Duncan “Antiquity” Telecaster
pickups, with the ability of dialing in
a level of acoustic sound through the
use of a Fishman piezo bridge. The
Indian rosewood fingerboard is accented
at the twelfth fret by a Greyhound
inlay.
